Introducing the 2016 Presidential Candidates and their Star Wars Counterpart.
The field is narrowing, and we are coming closer to determining who the parties will choose as their candidates for the 2016 US Presidential Elections. I will present my comparisons on candidates still in the running (with an exception for the Republican Party where Ted Cruz, John Kasich, Ben Carson and Marco Rubio will have comparisons as they were the most prominent Republican Candidates who dropped out).
The Republican Party, commonly referred to as the GOP (abbreviation for Grand Old Party), is one of the two major contemporary political parties in the United States, the other being its historic rival, the Democratic Party.
It was founded by anti-slavery activists, modernists, ex-Whigs, and ex-Free Soilers in 1854. To learn more about the Republican Party and their positions click on the elephant below.
Donald Trump’s Counterpart in Star Wars is Senator Palpatine/Chancellor/Emperor Palpatine.
Both Trump and Palpatine seemed to be unassuming figures. Trump was widely regarded as a joke in previous political contests. Both are popular with pretty much everyone, and they both worked developed relationships with the powerful in an attempt to further their ambitions. Both lie about their intentions, and I believe that once Trump gains any power, he will not let go of it easily. Like Palpatine, I believe that once in office, he will make promises to relinquish power while never having intention of doing so, and will transform the government into something that we don’t recognize quickly.
The Republican Drop Outs
John Kasich’s Counterpart in Star Wars is Jar Jar Binks.
Kasich is compared to Jar Jar due to the fact that he is hated by many in the Republican circles due to his refusal to drop out of the race despite no ability at this point to gain the delegate count to be selected as the republican candidate. He lacks the backing to get even a second round victory at the convention which Cruz helds, and It is widely viewed by Cruz and Trump supporters that Kasich is being manipulated by the establishment. Even with the initiative by Kasich and Cruz to divide the remaining states for campaigning to try to deny Trump the first round nomination (1237) Kasich’s refusal to drop out of the race until the day after Cruz dropped out is being viewed as the biggest joke of the Republican candidates.
Jar Jar Binks has undoubtedly become the face of everything that is “wrong” with the prequels- he was too silly, too unbelievable, seemingly pointless. Much like Kasich is the face of everything wrong with the establishment in the current Republican Race for the White House.
Ted Cruz’s Counterpart in Star Wars is Qui-Gon Jinn.
While both Cruz and Qui-Gon are seen as part of an establishment (Cruz the Senate and Jinn the Jedi Order), both are seen from inside the establishments as one who bucks the system. It was commented by others that Jinn could have been part of the Jedi Council if he had followed the established rules. Cruz has been blamed for bucking at the established rules most notably with a filibuster of the Senate talking for more than 21 hours in is opposition to Obamacare.
Marco Rubio’s Counterpart in Star Wars is Lando Calrissian.
Marco Rubio is compared to Lando Calrissian due to the deals he made with the Establishment Republicans while in the US Senate, Rubio was seen by many to have been on the losing end of the deal, and instead of being seen for all the good he had done (eventually will do) he is seen as a candidate who made a deal with the establishment to become President. Lando was eventually able to redeem himself and I believe Rubio can as well. Just not in this election cycle.
Ben Carson’s Counterpart in Star Wars is Count Dooku.
Ben Carson is compared to Count Dooku, as he started a master of himself, a star in his own right. He was disalusioned with the government and sought a way to right what he saw as wrong. Through the process he lost himself, and made a deal with an evil far greater than the corruption in the government and came out betrayed by the deal in the end. This is much like Carson’s decision to run for president, and then turn to Trump. He has made a deal that may come to plague him in the end.
Tracing its heritage back to Thomas Jefferson’s and James Madison’s Democratic-Republican Party, the modern-day Democratic Party was founded around 1828, making it the world’s oldest active party. To learn more about the Democratic Party and their positions click on the donkey below.
Hillary Clinton’s Counterpart in Star Wars is Lott Dod.
Clinton is compared to Lott Dod due to their controversial rolls in governance. Clinton is surrounded by controversy, and scandal, and her counterpart Dod in Star Wars is constantly in the middle of controversy in the Senate. Both proclaim their innocence in the controversy that surrounds them, while maintaining their actions are/were legal. Both are seen by their colleagues to be corrupt and/or immoral, but no one is willing to actually call them out for their illegal actions.
Bernie Sander’s Counterpart in Star Wars is Gilad Pellaeon
Sanders is compared to Gilad Pellaeon due to both are good men, who chose the wrong ideals to follow.
Pellaeon while not an inherently evil person like Palpatine, was a staunch supporter of the Galactic Empire after the collapse of the Galactic Republic. He rose high enough to be able to signal retreat in several battles, but never was the leader.
Sanders is a self described socialist. He uses the words Democratic Socialist to make it sound more appealing. As a note, Sanders is the most consistent as a candidate in the Democratic Party, and openly states his views. He hides nothing, and seems to have lived a decent life. Despite doing well in several states, and even beating Hillary many times, it is unlikely that Sanders will rise to a position of actual power.
Democratic Socialism was first used by Vladimir Lenin when he wanted to bring Marxist Socialism to Russia. Sanders is using the same arguments that Lenin used about Social Democracy to consolidate power to the Government. Once the Russian Government gained enough power, first through Democratic Socialism, then Marxist Socialism, the country went to Communism.
Democratic Socialism is failing Sweden, Denmark and other Nordic countries. The Command Economy (A Command economy or Centrally planned economy is an economic system in which a central authority, usually a government, has the power and responsibility to make all economic decisions) is failing the people. Nations like Greece are also suffering after attempts at Democratic Socialism have failed them, with the government in the news often over their attempts to freeze assets and collect money from the inhabitants of the country.
As a constitutionalist in my political views, in my opinion Mr Sanders and his policies would be bad for the US.
The Libertarian Party
The Libertarian Party (LP) is a libertarian political party in the United States that promotes civil liberties, free markets, non-interventionism, and laissez-faire. The LP was conceived at meetings in the home of David F. Nolan in Westminster, Colorado during 1971 and was officially formed on 11 December 1971 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Gary Johnson’s Counterpart in Star Wars is Mace Windu.
Johnson is compared to Mace Windu due to the fact that both are guardians of what they are put in charge of. Johnson as Governor used the Veto more than all other Governors combined. Mace Windu was the youngest member of the Jedi Council and wasn’t afraid to say No. He initially didn’t want either Obi-Wan to train as a padawan, and didn’t want Anakin to be trained at all. Both quickly rose to prominence and were elected with overwhelming majorities to positions of power.
Austin’s Counterpart in Star Wars is Sei Taria.
Austin is compared to Taria due to that he seems to be a somewhat powerful figure in his own right but also an aide to more powerful much like Taria. I had trouble finding much about Austin most of which is from his site which makes a better comparison difficult.
Kevin McCormick’s Counterpart in Star Wars is Cliegg Lars.
McCormick is compared to Cliegg Lars due to that both value their families. Again I had trouble finding much about McCormick most of which is from his site which makes a better comparison difficult.
John McAfee’s Counterpart in Star Wars is Elan Sleazebaggano.
Mcafee is compared to Elan Sleazebaggano better known to people as the Death Sticks guy from Episode 2.
I selected this correlation due to that it seems that McAfee has several times in his life had a run in with his Obi-Wan and gone home to rethink and re-imagine his life. He is a unique individual and has lead a very interesting life. While not much is known about Elan, one likes to imagine how he reinvented his life after his run in with Jedi Master Obi-Wan.
Darryl W. Perry Counterpart in Star Wars is ‘Old Ben Kenobi’ of Tatooine.
Perry is compared to the hermit Old Ben Kenobi. Conservative and unknown out of a specific region. Little is known of their past, and while they may be good people, you just don’t know enough about them to decide where they really stand.
The Green Party
The Green Party of the United States (GPUS or Greens) is a green, left-wing political party in the United States.
The party, which is the country’s fourth-largest by membership, promotes environmentalism, nonviolence, social justice, participatory grassroots democracy, feminism, LGBT rights, and anti-racism.
The GPUS was founded in 2001 as the evolution of the Association of State Green Parties (ASGP), which was formed in 1996. To learn more about the Green Party and their positions please click on the image below.
Jill Stein’s Counterpart in Star Wars is an Ewok.
Jill Stein is being compared to an Ewok due to the Ewok’s love nature, and their protectiveness of their environment. While relatively harmless individually, gatherings of even small numbers can cause them to become very destructive to foreign objects in their environment and can be dangerous to be around.
Kent Mesplay’s Counterpart in Star Wars is an Ewok.
Kent Mesplay is being compared to an Ewok due to the Ewok’s love nature, and their protectiveness of their environmentWhile relatively harmless individually, gatherings of even small numbers can cause them to become very destructive to foreign objects in their environment and can be dangerous to be around.
Again I had trouble finding much about Mesplay most of which is from his site which makes a better comparison difficult.
The Constitutional Party
The Constitution Party is a paleoconservative political party in the United States. The party was founded as the “U.S. Taxpayers’ Party” by Howard Phillips in 1991. The party advocates a platform which reflects the party’s interpretation of the principles set forth in the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States, the Bill of Rights, and the Bible.
The party believes that the United States is a Christian nation founded on the basis of the Bible and that jurisprudence should be restored to what the party claims is its “Biblical foundations”. It has been described by its critics as a theocratic and dominionist party as with its predecessor, the U.S. Taxpayers Party. Tom Hoefling’s Star Wars Counterpart is Cal Omas.
Hoefling is compared to Omas due to that both wanted to restore the government to a point that it was before. While Omas was able to get into a leadership position in the post Galactic Empire government, he struggled with the Senate and Jedi Council to bring the government into a more conservative position that it held prior to the rise of Palpatine to the Chancellorship. Hoefling would face similar conflicts with the current Congress and Senate trying to restore the government to a constitutional level.
My closing Thoughts.
After thorough research of every potential candidate including Cruz and Kasich, who dropped out yesterday and today respectively, I’ve decided I will be voting for Gary Johnson the former Governor of New Mexico who is a Libertarian.
Of all the candidates left I feel he is the one who best reflects my values and beliefs. While I am not for legalization of marijuana, I can not with clear conscious vote for Trump, Kasich, Sanders or Clinton. To answer the question I considered Ben Carson and Ted Cruz as other options. Tom Hoefling and Austin Petersen also had some consideration, but lack of viable resources to thoroughly research who they were eliminated them from my consideration.
I’m sure this will shock some of my friends and come as no surprise to others. While I may share a great deal of faith based information, I am not generally one to open the political flood gates as it were
